An Avro Vulcan B2 climbs into a wintery Lincolnshire sky during the early 1970s. Designed to combat the post war Soviet threat, the Vulcan was the mainstay of Britain’s defence during the Cold War years. In its later years the Vulcans were redeployed as part of Strike Command’s air refuelling tanker fleet. After nearly three decades of exceptional service the Vulcan finally retired from active duty in 1984.
