Spitfire Dawn by Stephen Brown - Original Painting

Original oil painting on high quality stretched canvas featuring a snow bound Spitfire of 222 Squadron.

North Weald, December 1941 and heavy snow falls have put paid to any operational flying for the day. In between flurries of snow, ground crews work on the Spitfire Mk Vbs of 222 Squadron so they can be ready to go as soon as the weather clears.

The canvas is signed on the back in permanent ink by the following distinguished Spitfire pilots:
Flt. Lft. Geoffrey Wellum DFC
Famous Battle of Britain Spitfire pilot and best selling author.
Peter Ayherst DFC
Spitfire Ace, 9 victories. Flew from start to finish throughout the war; took part in the Battle of France, Battle of Britain, D-Day and North Africa amongst others. First into combat against the Me109. He even taught the famous Johnny Johnson to fly. After the war he became a test pilot working alongside Alex Henshaw.
Peter Twiss OBE, DSC and Bar
War time combat pilot but perhaps best known for his breaking of the world speed record whilst flying the Fairey Delta 2 aircraft in 1956. Prior to this he flew Spitfires, Fulmars and Hawker Hurricanes from catapult ships. In 1942 he flew as part of the Malta convoys escort. Also took part in Operation Torch.

Signed by the artist and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.
